- 1 large loaf of Italian or French bread
- 1 pound thinly sliced beef (ribeye or sirloin)
- 1 tablespoon olive oil
- 1 medium onion, thinly sliced
- 1 medium green bell pepper, thinly sliced
- 1 teaspoon garlic powder
- Salt and pepper to taste
- 1 cup provolone cheese, shredded
- 1 cup mozzarella cheese, shredded
- 1/4 cup mayonnaise (optional)
- 1 tablespoon Worcestershire sauce
- Fresh parsley, chopped (for garnish)
- Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C) and line a large baking sheet with parchment paper.
- Heat olive oil in a large skillet over medium-high heat. Add the sliced beef, season with salt, pepper, and garlic powder, and cook until browned (3-5 minutes). Remove beef and set aside.
- In the same skillet, sauté the onion and green bell pepper until tender and caramelized (5-7 minutes).
- Return the beef to the skillet, add Worcestershire sauce (and optional mayonnaise), and mix well.
- Slice the bread loaf in half lengthwise and hollow out some of the soft interior to create a pocket.
- Stuff the beef and vegetable mixture into the bread and top generously with shredded provolone and mozzarella.
- Place on the baking sheet, cover loosely with foil, and bake for 20 minutes.
- Remove the foil and bake for another 10-15 minutes until the cheese is bubbly and the bread is golden.
- Let cool for a few minutes, garnish with parsley, slice, and serve.
Notes
- For the best flavor, use thinly shaved ribeye.
- You can toast the hollowed-out bread for 2 minutes before stuffing to prevent sogginess.
- Make sure to pack the filling tightly so the loaf holds its shape when sliced.
