Carne Asada Tacos: The Best Juicy Recipe Ever

These Carne Asada Tacos feature tender, citrus-marinated steak grilled to perfection and served in warm tortillas with fresh cilantro, onions, and creamy avocado.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 ½ pounds flank steak or skirt steak
  • 1/4 cup olive oil
  • 1/4 cup fresh lime juice (about 2 limes)
  • 4 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 teaspoon ground cumin
  • 1 teaspoon chili powder
  • 1 teaspoon smoked paprika
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 teaspoon black pepper
  • 1/4 teaspoon cayenne pepper (optional)
  • 8 small corn or flour tortillas
  • 1 cup chopped fresh cilantro
  • 1 cup diced onions
  • 1 cup diced tomatoes
  • 1 avocado, sliced
  • Lime wedges, for serving

Instructions

  1. In a bowl, whisk together olive oil, lime juice, minced garlic, cumin, chili powder, smoked paprika, salt, black pepper, and cayenne pepper.
  2. Place the steak in a resealable bag or shallow dish, pour the marinade over it, and coat well. Refrigerate for at least 1 hour (or overnight for best results).
  3. Preheat a grill or cast-iron skillet over medium-high heat.
  4. Grill the steak for 4-6 minutes per side for medium-rare, or until it reaches your desired doneness.
  5. Remove the steak and let it rest for 5-10 minutes to lock in juices.
  6. Slice the steak against the grain into thin strips.
  7. Warm the tortillas on the grill or in a dry skillet for 30 seconds per side.
  8. Assemble the tacos by placing steak in tortillas and topping with cilantro, onions, tomatoes, and avocado slices. Serve with lime wedges.

Notes

  • Slicing against the grain is essential for a tender bite.
  • For the best flavor, marinate the meat for at least 4-6 hours.
  • Corn tortillas are traditional, but flour tortillas work well if preferred.
  • Ensure the grill is very hot before adding the steak to get a good sear.
