Blackberry Cobbler from Scratch: Easy Tasty Recipe

A classic, easy-to-make Blackberry Cobbler featuring fresh berries nestled in a buttery, golden-brown cake-like crust. Perfect served warm with vanilla ice cream.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 4 cups fresh blackberries (or frozen)
  • 1 cup granulated sugar, divided
  • 1 tablespoon lemon juice
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1 cup all-purpose flour
  • 1 tablespoon baking powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1 cup whole milk
  • 1/2 cup unsalted butter, melted
  • 1 teaspoon cinnamon (optional)

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C) and lightly grease a 9x13-inch baking dish.
  2. In a large bowl, toss the blackberries with 1/2 cup sugar, lemon juice, and vanilla extract; let sit for 10 minutes.
  3. In a separate bowl, whisk together the flour, remaining 1/2 cup sugar, baking powder, salt, and cinnamon.
  4. Stir the milk and melted butter into the dry ingredients until just combined (lumps are okay).
  5. Pour the batter into the prepared baking dish without spreading it out too much.
  6. Spoon the blackberry mixture evenly over the top of the batter (do not stir).
  7. Bake for 45 to 50 minutes until the top is golden brown and a toothpick comes out clean.
  8. Cool for 10 minutes before serving warm.

Notes

  • If using frozen blackberries, do not thaw them first to prevent the batter from becoming too purple.
  • Serve with vanilla ice cream or fresh whipped cream for the best experience.
  • Store leftovers in the refrigerator for up to 3 days.
