Blueberry Lemonade: Best Refreshing Summer Recipe

A vibrant and refreshing summer drink that combines the tartness of freshly squeezed lemons with the sweet, deep flavor of a homemade blueberry reduction.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 cup fresh blueberries
  • 1 cup freshly squeezed lemon juice (about 4-6 lemons)
  • 1 cup granulated sugar
  • 4 cups cold water
  • Ice cubes
  • Lemon slices and fresh blueberries for garnish (optional)
  • Fresh mint leaves for garnish (optional)

Instructions

  1. In a medium saucepan, combine the fresh blueberries and 1 cup of water. Bring to a gentle simmer over medium heat for 5-7 minutes until blueberries burst.
  2. Remove from heat, let cool slightly, and strain through a fine mesh sieve into a bowl, pressing solids to extract juice. Discard solids.
  3. In a large pitcher, combine the lemon juice and granulated sugar. Stir well until the sugar is completely dissolved.
  4. Add the remaining 3 cups of cold water and the reserved blueberry juice to the pitcher. Stir until well combined.
  5. Adjust sweetness or water levels to taste.
  6. Chill in the refrigerator for at least 30 minutes.
  7. Serve over ice and garnish with lemon slices, blueberries, and mint if desired.

Notes

  • Use fresh lemons rather than bottled juice for the best flavor profile.
  • For a sparkling version, replace the final 3 cups of cold water with sparkling water or club soda just before serving.
  • If you prefer a smoother texture, ensure the blueberry juice is strained twice.
