- 1 cup fresh blueberries
- 1 cup freshly squeezed lemon juice (about 4-6 lemons)
- 1 cup granulated sugar
- 4 cups cold water
- Ice cubes
- Lemon slices and fresh blueberries for garnish (optional)
- Fresh mint leaves for garnish (optional)
- In a medium saucepan, combine the fresh blueberries and 1 cup of water. Bring to a gentle simmer over medium heat for 5-7 minutes until blueberries burst.
- Remove from heat, let cool slightly, and strain through a fine mesh sieve into a bowl, pressing solids to extract juice. Discard solids.
- In a large pitcher, combine the lemon juice and granulated sugar. Stir well until the sugar is completely dissolved.
- Add the remaining 3 cups of cold water and the reserved blueberry juice to the pitcher. Stir until well combined.
- Adjust sweetness or water levels to taste.
- Chill in the refrigerator for at least 30 minutes.
- Serve over ice and garnish with lemon slices, blueberries, and mint if desired.
Notes
- Use fresh lemons rather than bottled juice for the best flavor profile.
- For a sparkling version, replace the final 3 cups of cold water with sparkling water or club soda just before serving.
- If you prefer a smoother texture, ensure the blueberry juice is strained twice.
