Classic Southern Pimento Cheese Spread: Best Recipe

A creamy and flavorful Classic Southern Pimento Cheese Spread made with sharp cheddar, softened cream cheese, and a hint of spice. Perfect for sandwiches, crackers, or vegetable dips.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 8 ounces sharp cheddar cheese, grated
  • 4 ounces cream cheese, softened
  • 1/2 cup mayonnaise
  • 1/4 cup diced pimentos, drained
  • 1 tablespoon Dijon mustard
  • 1 teaspoon Worcestershire sauce
  • 1/2 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon onion powder
  • 1/4 teaspoon cayenne pepper (optional)
  • Salt and black pepper, to taste
  • Fresh chives or parsley, chopped (for garnish, optional)

Instructions

  1. Grate the sharp cheddar cheese fresh for the best flavor and texture.
  2. In a large mixing bowl, combine the grated cheddar and softened cream cheese using a fork or hand mixer until creamy.
  3. Add the mayonnaise, drained pimentos, Dijon mustard, and Worcestershire sauce; stir until well combined.
  4. Season with garlic powder, onion powder, and cayenne pepper. Add salt and black pepper to taste.
  5. Cover the bowl with plastic wrap and refrigerate for at least one hour to allow flavors to meld.
  6. Garnish with fresh chives or parsley before serving with crackers, bread, or vegetables.

Notes

  • Avoid pre-shredded cheese as it contains anti-caking agents that affect the creamy texture.
  • Ensure the cream cheese is fully softened at room temperature for easier blending.
  • If you prefer a chunkier texture, mix by hand; for a smoother spread, use an electric mixer.
  • Store leftovers in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to 5 days.
