A perfect balance of sweet and spicy, this Hot Honey Chicken features crispy, buttermilk-marinated fried chicken drizzled with a warm, infused honey glaze.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 4 boneless, skinless chicken breasts
  • 1 cup buttermilk
  • 1 tablespoon hot sauce
  • 1 cup all-purpose flour
  • 1 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 1 teaspoon onion powder
  • 1 teaspoon smoked paprika
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 teaspoon black pepper
  • 1/2 teaspoon cayenne pepper (optional)
  • Vegetable oil for frying
  • 1/2 cup honey
  • 1-2 tablespoons red pepper flakes
  • Fresh parsley, chopped (for garnish)

Instructions

  1. In a large bowl, whisk together buttermilk and hot sauce. Add chicken breasts, cover, and refrigerate for at least 1 hour or overnight.
  2. Heat 1 inch of vegetable oil in a large skillet over medium-high heat.
  3. In a shallow dish, whisk together flour, garlic powder, onion powder, smoked paprika, salt, black pepper, and cayenne pepper.
  4. Remove chicken from marinade, let excess drip off, and dredge thoroughly in the seasoned flour.
  5. Fry chicken in the hot oil for 5-7 minutes per side until golden brown and the internal temperature reaches 165°F.
  6. While chicken fries, combine honey and red pepper flakes in a small saucepan over low heat until warmed through.
  7. Drain cooked chicken on paper towels.
  8. Drizzle generously with hot honey and garnish with fresh parsley before serving.

Notes

  • For the best flavor, marinate the chicken overnight.
  • If the chicken is browning too fast, reduce the heat to medium to ensure it cooks through without burning the crust.
  • Adjust the red pepper flakes in the honey to control the spice level.
  • Pairs perfectly with coleslaw or biscuits.
