One-Pot Honey BBQ Sausage Pasta: An Easy Recipe.

A delicious and comforting one-pot meal featuring smoked sausage, penne pasta, and a sweet and tangy honey BBQ sauce, all topped with melted cheddar cheese.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 12 ounces penne pasta
  • 1 pound smoked sausage, sliced (kielbasa or andouille)
  • 1 tablespoon olive oil
  • 1 medium onion, diced
  • 3 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 bell pepper, diced
  • 1 can (14.5 ounces) diced tomatoes, undrained
  • 1 cup chicken broth
  • 1/2 cup honey BBQ sauce
  • 1 teaspoon Italian seasoning
  • 1/2 teaspoon red pepper flakes (optional)
  • Salt and pepper to taste
  • 1 cup shredded cheddar cheese
  • Fresh parsley, chopped (for garnish)

Instructions

  1. Heat olive oil in a large pot or Dutch oven over medium heat. Add sliced sausage and cook until browned (5-7 minutes).
  2. Add diced onion and bell pepper; sauté for 3-4 minutes until softened. Stir in minced garlic and cook for 1 minute.
  3. Stir in diced tomatoes (with juice), chicken broth, honey BBQ sauce, Italian seasoning, and red pepper flakes. Season with salt and pepper.
  4. Add the penne pasta and stir. Bring to a gentle boil, then reduce heat to low.
  5. Cover and simmer for 15-20 minutes, stirring occasionally, until pasta is al dente and sauce has thickened.
  6. Remove from heat. Sprinkle shredded cheddar cheese over the top, cover, and let sit for 5 minutes to melt.
  7. Stir the melted cheese into the pasta and garnish with fresh parsley before serving.

Notes

  • Stir occasionally during simmering to prevent the pasta from sticking to the bottom of the pot.
  • For a spicier kick, use andouille sausage and increase the red pepper flakes.
  • If the sauce is too thick, add a splash more chicken broth at the end.
  • Leftovers can be stored in an airtight container in the fridge for up to 3 days.
