Philly Cheese Steak Sloppy Joes: Fast Tasty Recipe

A delicious and savory twist on two classics, these Philly Cheese Steak Sloppy Joes combine seasoned ground beef, sautéed peppers, and onions with melted provolone cheese on a toasted bun.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 pound ground beef
  • 1 tablespoon olive oil
  • 1 medium onion, finely chopped
  • 1 green bell pepper, finely chopped
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 teaspoon Worcestershire sauce
  • 1 teaspoon soy sauce
  • 1/2 teaspoon black pepper
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1 cup beef broth
  • 1 cup provolone cheese, shredded
  • 4 hamburger buns, toasted
  • Fresh parsley, chopped (for garnish)

Instructions

  1. In a large skillet over medium heat, add the olive oil. Sauté the chopped onion and green bell pepper for about 5 minutes until soft.
  2. Add the minced garlic and cook for another minute, stirring frequently.
  3. Add the ground beef to the skillet. Break it up with a spatula and cook until browned (about 7 to 10 minutes). Drain excess fat if necessary.
  4. Stir in the Worcestershire sauce, soy sauce, black pepper, and salt.
  5. Pour in the beef broth and bring to a gentle simmer. Cook for about 10 minutes until the sauce thickens.
  6. Sprinkle the shredded provolone over the top and cover the skillet with a lid for a couple of minutes until the cheese is melted.
  7. Spoon the mixture onto toasted hamburger buns and garnish with fresh parsley.

Notes

  • For a lighter version, you can substitute ground beef with ground turkey.
  • Ensure buns are well-toasted to prevent them from getting soggy from the beef broth mixture.
  • If you prefer a thicker sauce, you can mix a teaspoon of cornstarch with a little water and add it during the simmering stage.
