Soft & Fluffy Stovetop Bread

This easy recipe creates a warm, buttery, and golden round of fresh bread in just 20 minutes using only a skillet.

Ingredients

  • 1 cup all-purpose flour
  • 1 teaspoon baking powder
  • ¼ teaspoon salt
  • ¼ cup unsalted butter melted
  • ½ cup milk
  • 1 egg

Equipment

  • Mixing Bowls
  • Non-stick skillet with lid
  • Spatula
  • Whisk

Method

  1. In a large bowl, whisk together the flour, baking powder, and salt.
  2. In a separate bowl, whisk the melted butter, milk, and egg until the mixture is smooth.
  3. Gradually add the wet mixture to the dry ingredients, stirring until a soft dough forms.
  4. Heat a non-stick skillet over medium-low heat and lightly grease it if necessary.
  5. Scoop the dough into the skillet and spread it into a round approximately ½-inch thick.
  6. Cover the skillet with a lid and cook for 6 to 8 minutes until the bottom is golden brown.
  7. Carefully flip the bread with a spatula and cook the other side for another 6 to 8 minutes until fully cooked through.
  8. Remove the bread from the heat and allow it to cool slightly before slicing and serving.

Notes

For an extra-soft texture, ensure the pan has a tight-fitting lid to trap steam during the cooking process.
Cook the bread over medium-low heat to avoid burning the exterior before the center is finished.
You can add fresh herbs, cheese, or cinnamon and sugar to customize the flavor for sweet or savory versions.
Brushing the bread with additional melted butter after cooking provides a richer taste and shine.
Leftovers can be stored in an airtight container at room temperature for up to two days.
