- In a mixing bowl, whisk together eggs sugar flour and salt
- Heat milk in a saucepan until warm
- Gradually add the warm milk to the egg mixture while whisking
- Return the mixture to the saucepan and cook over medium heat until thickened
- Remove from heat and stir in butter and vanilla extract
- Allow the custard to cool slightly
- Slice bananas
- In a serving dish, layer vanilla wafers bananas and custard
- Repeat layers until all ingredients are used, finishing with custard
- Top with whipped cream
- Refrigerate for at least 2 hours before serving
Notes
Use ripe bananas for maximum sweetness and flavor
Do not overcook the custard to prevent curdling
Gently fold whipped cream to maintain light texture
